| JCC Honors Charles Anderson For Service |
JacksonBlazer writes, "On Wednesday April 9th, friends and Jackson Community College officials gathered at the Wickwire House to informally honor retiring Trustee Board member Charles Anderson. We are very pleased to be hosting Trustee Anderson and his friends and colleagues here at Wickwire House., said JCC President Dan Phelan.
We are really going to miss Trustee Anderson. He has been a staunch advocate for advancing student issues, particularly issues that relate to students of color. He was very helpful to us in making sure we crafted our strategic plan to focus on that issue, and making sure that we provided an environment that was inclusive and very welcoming.

Anderson replaced former Police Chief Robert Johnson as a Trustee in 1994, when he left the community, and Anderson was re-elected twice. It’s a privilege, and it makes me feel good that people would think enough of you and your performance to honor you with something like this,. said Charles Anderson. As a JCC Board of Trustee member for 14 years, Anderson, during his tenure, was a strong education advocate.
He was champion for the College Incentive Program and a strong proponent of the value of higher education for all. With experience in the health care field after many years of service to Foote Health System, Mr. Anderson has helped to steer the college to maintain and expand JCC’s strong emphasis on health care, such as nursing and allied health training.
As a board member Anderson: voted in 2001 to approve funding to build what is now the JCC @VO-TECH site, improving access and expanding offerings for students there. Voted in 2005 to approve funding to build William Atkinson Hall information and technology center, the first new building on the Jackson campus in 25 years.
Voted to approve the return of interscholastic sports to the college in 2006. Voted to construct student housing on the Jackson campus in 2006 Voted in 2007 to renovate the JCC Hillsdale Clyde LeTarte Center In 2008, he and his wife, Patricia Anderson, were both honored with the Jackson Community College Martin Luther King, Jr. Medal of Honor awards.
Anderson’s position will be filled by Sheila Patterson. I think Sheila will be an outstanding performer on the board, said Anderson. She has the kind of background and experience, and she’s a young critical thinker who will be a real asset to the board and this community.
